Homer City Post 493 ended the regular Senior Legion season with a split of a doubleheader with Young Township. Homer City won the first game, 5-1 and Young Township took the second game, 6-3.
In the first game, Adam Cowburn smacked a two-run double in the second inning, and two groundouts produced two more runs. Caleb Palmer got the win with three-and-a-third shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk. Owen Saiani threw the final three-and-two-thirds innings and giving up one run on four hits with three strikeouts. Cowburn had two hits and three RBIs and Nick Love also had two hits. Haden Brink was 3-for-3 for Young Township.
A four-run fifth inning erased a 3-2 deficit and led Young Township to the win in the second game. After tying the game, Roger Wright hit a three-run home run for YT to give them the lead for good. Tristan Redinger doubled a drove in a run for Post 493 in the second, but Young Township’s Brink launched a solo home run in the third. In the bottom of that inning, Homer City’s Michael Dolan’s sacrifice fly tied the game and Alex Bauer’s double put them on top. Jacob Fairbanks got the win for YT. Nick Love again let Post 493 with two hits.
Homer City Post 493 finishes the regular season 9-10-1 and earns the #7 seed in the District 31 playoffs. Homer City will face the #2 seed Murrysville tomorrow at 4 PM at Haymaker Park. Game 2 of the best-of-three series will be Wednesday at Homer City at 5:30. Game 3, if necessary will be back at Haymaker on Thursday at 5:30.
