The Pirates opened their three-game series in Chicago with a crushing defeat at the hands of the Chicago Cubs. Joe Block has the story.
Osvaldo Bido makes his Major League debut for the Pirates in the series’ second game tonight. He was 3-4 with a 4.55 ERA for Indianapolis. He starts in place of Roansy Contreras, who has been sent to the bullpen by the Pirates. Drew Smyly [5-4, 3.27 ERA] starts for the Cubs. It’s a 7:40 airtime, an 8:05 first pitch on WCCS.

- It was a good day for first-round draft picks in Indianapolis…Henry Davis hit his first Triple-A home run, Quinn Priester went six-and-two-thirds innings giving up two runs, one earned, and supplemental first rounder Carmen Mlodzinski got his first save as the Indians beat Iowa, 7-4.
- Altoona took an 8-4 beating from Somerset. Curve catcher Abrahan Gutierrez had two hits including a home run and Liover Peguero also homered. Jared Jones pitches the second game of the series tonight in New Jersey.
