Indiana County District Attorney Robert Manzi announced on Tuesday that civil complaints were filed against 10 area businesses that advertised the sale of items including CBD-infused food, delta-8 THC and other unlawful products in the state.
Manzi said in a news release that the District Attorney’s office received several complaints over the past few months, including allegations that items were being sold to minors, the products were not as they were advertised, or that certain items were lawful when that was not true. The Indiana County Drug Task Force and Indiana County Detective Bureau launched an investigation into the products being sold from the businesses, and a test conducted by the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab revealed that they were in violation of the law.
The complaints, filed under the Consumer Protection Law, ask the county court of common pleas to instruct defendants from mislabeling items, misleading the public of their legal status, and from selling certain items. If they continue to violate the law, the court can fine a business’ owners or force the establishment to close.
Manzi did not name the businesses in the release, but he said that he would like to see community businesses be successful, but “it has to be within the confines of the law.”
