NFL OTAs began yesterday across the league, including at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, where almost everybody showed up for the voluntary Organized Team Activities. Linebacker TJ Watt was absent.
Thirteen pounds heavier after offseason workouts, quarterback Kenny Pickett talked about adding muscle to his frame inanticipation of a season where he expects the Steelers to make a run into the playoffs. He says it’s up to the players to make it happen.
Linebacker Alex Highsmith says he has another level of football he can attain and be “way better”.
Highsmith was visitor to IUP with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes last month. His agent and the Steelers are working on a contract extension. While Watt and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick have skipped OTAs in the past while they worked out contract extensions, Highsmith said he felt it was important to be working and he is confident an agreement will be reached.
Yesterday was the first of ten days the Steelers have planned for OTAs. They will work out again today and tomorrow before taking the long holiday weekend off.
