State Representative Jim Struzzi has introduced legislation that he says “addresses the expanded role played by the Pennsylvania State Police in the 21st century.”
Struzzi’s bill, he says, lifts an “antiquated cap on the number of officers allowed by law, which would take into account the increased demands on their time.” The bill removes the “complement cap” which limits the maximum number of state police troopers.
Struzzi says the increase in gang and drug violence places more of a burden on state police, who are spending more time in areas where they may not have been previously, especially in smaller municipalities which now depend on them.
The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee.
