Depending on how you choose to look at it, things are looking up for the Pirates, who have won two of their last three games by throwing shutout baseball. Or you could say they’ve lost 12 of their last 15 games, and things don’t look as rosy. Yesterday, though, it was another pitching gem, this time authored by Rich Hill and the Pirates bullpen, that led the way to a Bucco win in Detroit. Joe Block reports.
The Pirates are off today and start a three-game series with Arizona at PNC Park tomorrow night.
MLB
Major League Baseball has suspended Yankees pitcher Domingo German for 10 games for having a sticky substance on his pitching hand Tuesday in a game against Toronto. German was ejected in the fourth inning of the win over the Blue Jays. He’s the second pitcher suspended for that reason this season. The Mets’ Max Scherzer was also sat down for 10 games last month.
ALTOONA
Altoona busted out the bats and walloped Bowie, 11-2, last night. Drew Maggi had two doubles. Henry Davis, Liover Peguero, Lolo Sanchez, Matt Gorski, and Fabricio Macias all had two hits as well, and Sean Sullivan gave up two runs on two hits with three walks and six strikeouts over six innings.
After splitting the first two games of the series, Altoona will send right-hander Aaron Shortridge to the mound tonight.
