The Pirates entered last night’s game in Detroit with the momentum of Sunday’s win over Baltimore, but the Bucs’ bats were silenced by Michael Lorenzen and his Tigers teammates. Here’s Joe Block.
The short two-game series concludes this afternoon in Detroit. The Pirates send lefty Rich Hill [3-3, 4.35 ERA] to the mound against the Tigers’ southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez [4-2, 1.57 ERA]. It’s a 12:45 airtime on WCCS.
Pirates relief pitcher Rob Zastryzny began his rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis yesterday, pitching one inning, giving up no runs with a hit, a walk, and a strikeout. 2019 Bucs first round draft pick Quinn Priester had another solid start, covering 7 innings and giving up 1 run on 5 hits and a walk, with 9 strikeouts. Top prospects Nick Gonzalez and Endy Rodriguez each homered in the Indy win.
ALTOONA CURVE
Altoona fell to two games under .500 with a 4-3 loss at Bowie. Catcher Henry Davis hit his 9th home run of the season, a three-run blast and Liover Pequero hit three doubles. Jared Jones started the game and went four innings and allowed one run on four hits with seven strikeouts.
Game two of the series is tonight in Bowie. The Curve will start right-hander Sean Sullivan.
