BASEBALL
Marion Center took a 3-0 lead, saw Homer-Center tie it at 3 in the third inning, then scored two runs in the bottom of the third and another in the fifth for a 6-3 win. Dakota Bracken and Nick Pacconi each had two hits for Marion Center and Parker Black got the win, pitching 5-and-two-thirds innings and striking out five. For Homer-Center, five players each had a hit and Caleb Palmer doubled and drove in two runs.
United chances of making the District 6 playoffs took a blow with a 7-6 loss to Portage. The Lions are currently ranked 9th, one slot short of the playoff field. Portage scored three times in the 7th inning and then held off a United rally to win the game. Mason Kargo, Billy Dobrowlsky, and Jake McCoy all had two hits for the Mustangs and Dobrowlsky did the most damage, with a double and three RBIs. United’s six hits were scattered among six players, with Isaac Worthington hitting a triple and Connor Darr a double.
Ty Stockley and Garret Jasper each had three hits and Tristan Weakland cracked a grand slam as Cambria Heights beat Purchase Line, 16-0.
After three scoreless innings, River Valley scored two runs in the 4th and went on to an 8-3 win over West Shamokin. Sammy Yanits had three hits for the Panthers. Caden Vresilovec had two hits and three RBIs. Gage Pierce also had two hits. The Wolves four hits were all singles, scattered among four players.
Trailing 5-1, Northern Cambria scored four runs in the 3rd inning, then added three in the 4th, five in the 5th, and two in the 7th to take a 15-5 win over Penns Manor. The Colts did not supply their box score. Kayden Detwiler had two hits for the Comets.
Indiana went to Hollidaysburg and came home with a 5-3 win over the Tigers. Andrew McGee, Garrison Dougherty, and Trevor Smith all had two hits for Indiana and Steven Budash tripled. Dougherty had two RBIs.
SOFTBALL
Marion Center’s Natalie Black and Abbey Smulik each homered and singled as the Stingers downed Homer-Center 11-1. Alexis Roush doubled and singled and Brookelynn Hill also had two hits. Cheyenne Silvis struck out six in earning the win in the pitcher’s circle.
West Shamokin’s Avery Elkin threw a complete game two-hitter and struck out 14 as the Wolves dropped River Valley, 6-0. Lily Jordan had two hits, including her fifth home run of the season, and Maria Young, Madi Keim, and Maddie McConnell all had two hits.
In a four-inning game, Cambria Heights topped Purchase Line, 17-0. The Highlanders had 16 hits, 14 of them singles. Ellie Bender, Rylee Bernecky, Karin Adams, Alexis Griak, and Macey Mezello all had two hits.
Portage stopped a United 4-run rally in the sixth inning and nipped the Lions, 7-6. Sydney Castel, Tori Harrison, and Adasyn Trusik all had two hits for the Mustangs and Harrison drove in three runners. Jaelyn Lichtinfels hit a home run for United and Preslee Metil had two hits.
Northern Cambria scored six runs in the 3rd inning and eight more in the 4th to beat Penns Manor, 18-3. Laci Lanzendorfer had three hits and three RBIs. Alivia Yahner, Megan Lubert, Skye Bernecky, and Julia Mitory all had two hits for the Colts.
