The Penguins will have the 14th overall selection in this year’s NHL Draft, which is scheduled for June 28th and 29th in Nashville. The Pens will also have picks in the third, fifth, and sixth rounds, plus two in the seventh round.
The 14th pick will be their highest selection position since the 2012 draft, when they acquired the number eight overall selection from Carolina and chose defenseman Derrick Pouliot, who they traded in 2017 to Vancouver for another defenseman, Andrey Pedan, and a 2018 fourth round draft pick. They flipped that 4th round pick in a three-team trade with Las Vegas and Ottawa for forward Derick Brassard and another prospect, Tobias Lindberg. Brassard played 54 games over two seasons for the Pens, scoring 12 goals. Pedan never played for the Penguins, making his way back to his native Russia. Lindberg was eventually traded to Ottawa.
The Chicago Blackhawks will have the first overall selection in the draft, followed by Anaheim, Columbus, San Jose, and Montreal.
