Indiana is one of fifteen teams that have clinched a spot in the Class 4A WPIAL playoffs. They are currently the second team out of Section 4. Hampton and Knoch are contending for the final slot out of the Section with the two of them playing each other this week. If Hampton wins one of the two games, they are in, while Knoch has to sweep the Talbots to make it in.
In the race for the Heritage Conference championship, one of the finalists is already determined. Northern Cambria has clinched a spot in next Monday’s title game. The other contenders are Marion Center and United. The Stingers’ 1-0 win over Homer-Center on Saturday stopped the Wildcats’ chances. Marion Center is 9-2 and United is 8-3 headed into the final week of conference play. Marion Center plays Homer-Center on Wednesday and United on Thursday. United needs Homer-Center to win on Wednesday while they have to beat Portage in order to set up a clinching game on Thursday at Marion Center.
SOFTBALL
The Indiana girls have already clinched their spot in the WPIAL playoffs, but they will play a role in determining who else is in the tournament. They’ll play Highlands today, and if Highlands wins, they will clinch a spot.
In the Heritage Conference softball race, Cambria Heights has clinched the top spot in the East and will play for the championship next Monday. Their opponent will be either West Shamokin or Marion Center. The Wolves are currently 9-1 and the Stingers 9-2. West Shamokin will play Homer-Center on Tuesday and River Valley on Wednesday, and if they win one of those two games, they clinch the playoff spot based on winning both of the head-to-head games with Marion Center. The Stingers play Homer-Center today and again on Wednesday, needing to win both games and hope for a loss by West Shamokin.
RUGBY
The Indiana rugby took another big step in their quest to defend their state championship with a 17-14 win over Pittsburgh Central Catholic yesterday. The Warriors will next play at home against Knightmare, from Lancaster County, in the state semifinals.
