Pirates right-hander Max Kranick has taken a big step in his return from Tommy John surgery. Yesterday, Kranick threw his first bullpen session since last year’s surgery. He will remain with the team for the three-game series against the Rays before returning to Bradenton to continue his rehab. He had the surgery on June 3rd last year.

For the second straight day, the Houston Astros have lost a member of their starting rotation with an elbow injury. Luis Garcia goes on the 15-day injured list a day after Jose Urquidy was placed on the list.
Colorado Rockies right-hander German Marquez is out for the year and will undergo Tommy John surgery on his elbow.
Bryce Harper was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his return to the Phillies lineup for the first time since having Tommy John surgery in the offseason. The Phils lost to the Dodgers, 13-1 a night after losing to LA, 13-4.
ALTOONA CURVE
Richmond jumped on Altoona starter Kyle Nicolas for five runs in five innings and beat the Curve, 6-2 in the first game of their 6-game set. For Altoona, Lolo Sanchez was 3-for-4 with two doubles and Henry Davis had two hits, but he also struck out three times. Matt Gorski collected a couple of hits. Back with the Curve, Drew Maggi did not play.
The Curve will start Justin Meis in the second game of the series tonight.
