The Steelers’ front office is getting down to the business of signing draft picks while the veterans continue their voluntary workouts on the South Side at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
The team has reportedly offered a former top college quarterback recruit the opportunity to be part of rookie minicamp. Former Clemson QB Hunter Johnson, who was the nation’s top recruit in 2017, has reportedly accepted the invitation from the Steelers and another invitation from the New York Giants. Johnson was stuck behind a succession of other top-rated quarterbacks at Clemson, including Trevor Lawrence, before transferring to Northwestern in the search for playing time. He transferred back to Clemson when things didn’t work out at Northwestern, and was a backup there last season.
Other players reportedly invited to rookie minicamp include Millersville defensive lineman/edge rusher Tyler Tate, Pitt linebacker/safety Tylar Wiltz, Duquesne wide receiver Dwayne Menders, Nevada running back Toa Taua, and Rutgers punter Adam Korsak.
Rookie minicamp is scheduled for May 12th through the 14th. The Steelers have three current openings on their 90-man offseason roster.

A couple of the Steelers’ AFC North rivals are in the NFL news. The Ravens have declined the fifth-year option on inside linebacker Patrick Queen’s rookie contract. He will become a free agent after the upcoming season. Bengals defensive end Joseph Ossai is recovering from shoulder surgery. He said he had the procedure in February and will miss about five months, which would put him back in limited capacity for training camp.
