6-7 forward Zack Austin has signed his paperwork to complete his transfer from High Point to Pitt. He averaged 14.1 points and 8 rebounds per game with 69 blocked shots and 63 3-point field goals last season, when he was the Big South Freshman of the Year.
Pitt guard Blake Hinson says he will test his prospects in the NBA while retaining his college eligibility. He will have until May 31st to make his decision on whether to try playing pro ball or return to college. Hinson averaged 15.3 points per game and 6 rebounds last season, winning the CollegeInsider.com Riley Wallace Award as the top transfer player in college basketball.
FOOTBALL
Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi will have a new option at tight end this season after Southern Cal’s Malcolm Epps announced on his Instagram that he is transferring to the Panthers. Epps is 6-6 and 250 pounds.
Epps was on the John Mackey Award watch list last season. He started his college career at Texas before transferring to USC. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.
SCOTT BARNES
Former Pitt Athletic Director Scott Barnes is listed in stable condition and is showing signs of improvement after being hospitalized for a “medical event” Saturday night while attending an awards ceremony in Fresno, California. The 60-year-old is currently the AD at Oregon State. He was at Pitt for less than two years, in 2015 and 2016.
