BASEBALL
In a rare Sunday afternoon matchup, the United Lions downed Shanksville Stonycreek, 6-4. The game was tied at one heading into the bottom of the fourth, but that’s when United exploded for four runs in the frame. They added an important insurance run in the sixth, while holding the Vikings to two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Brad Felix led the Lions’ offense with a 2-for-4 line that included a double. Felix also picked up the win after allowing three unearned runs in four innings while picking up five strikeouts.
Caden McCully and Evan Thomas also added two hits for United. Jacob Sombronski added three stolen bases.

SOFTBALL
In the annual Teddy Bear Fund Drive softball game on Saturday, Indiana bested Homer-Center, 6-1. Maggie Cunningham was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Olivia Zimmerman was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and picked up the win along with six strikeouts in the circle. Indiana returns to the diamond today against Knoch.
TRACK & FIELD
Several area runners showcased their talents over the weekend at the Bill Wilt Memorial Invitational at United High School.
United saw several gold medalists, including Sarah Marshall who won the 100 and 300 hurdles; Ty Gapshes, who won the 300 hurdles; Gaige Grassmyer, who won the 400; and Andrew Payne in pole vault.
United’s 4×800 team of Grassmyer, Colton Henning, Matt Beaver and Ruary Butler took silver.
Portage’s Cami Burkett claimed gold in the 200m dash. Purchase Line’s Peyton Falisec took third in girls discuss, while Northern Cambria’s Dawson Shutty took third in the boys discuss.
