BASEBALL
Homer-Center’s Owen Saiani launched a three-run home run in the 3rd inning to give the Wildcats a 3-2 lead and they went on to defeat Cambria Heights, 13-3. Saiani also had a double and drove in four runs in all. Caleb Palmer added a two-run homer for Homer-Center in the 6th. Michael Krejocic, Braden Dunn, Brayden Rado, and Nate Birchall all had two hits for the Wildcats, and Cameron Cavalier drove in three runs. Palmer got the complete game win, throwing six innings and giving up three runs, while striking out five. Zane Miller had two hits for the Highlanders.
Marion Center knocked off West Shamokin, 8-2. Nick Pacconi’s two-run single in a four-run first got the Stingers going and they never looked back, scoring two runs in the second and single runs in the 5th and 7th. Alex Stewart had three hits, and Braden Reichenbach and Camden Rising each had two. Reichenbach gave up two runs over 5-and-a-third innings, striking out five to earn the win. Parker Black tossed the final inning-and-a-third and struck out three more. West Shamokin had six different players with one hit, including Jude Olinger’s triple.
Kayden Detwiler spun a complete game one-hitter, striking out 14 as Penns Manor shut out Purchase Line, 5-0. The Comets took a 2-0 lead in the first, added two more in the 4th and another in the 5th. Carter Smith had two hits, including a double, and Amin Lieb drove in two runs for Penns Manor.
Northern Cambria rallied from a 4-2 deficit with a three-run third inning, then added a run in the 5th and three more in the 6th to break away from Portage in a 9-5 victory that kept the Colts undefeated. They are 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the Heritage Conference, and up next for them is a game on Tuesday at undefeated United.
United took a 7-1 lead over River Valley with a 6-run second, but the Panthers scored four in the third and three more in the 4th to surge ahead, 8-7. The Lions answered with a three-run 5th followed by a two-run 7th to put the game away, 12-8, and stay unbeaten at 6-0. Brad Felix had three hits and three RBIs and Isaac Worthington, Joe Marino, and Evan Thomas each had two hits with two RBIs for United. Felix got the win with three innings of scoreless relief, striking out five. For River Valley, Sammy Yanits had a home run and a double and drove in four. Gavin Burkhart added two hits for the Panthers.
SOFTBALL
Homer-Center is starting to put things together. The Wildcats beat previously undefeated Cambria Heights yesterday, 6-4. Melanie George hit a home run in the first inning and Julia King followed that up with a homer in the second as Homer-Center took a 5-0 lead. The Highlanders scored runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings but stranded a runner in the bottom of the 7th. Bekah Marshall threw five innings for the win and Julia King earned the save. King drove in three runners and George had two RBIs. Alaina Fabin had two hits and an RBI for Homer-Center, which has won four in a row and will play Indiana in the Teddy Bear Fund Drive Game at Kennedy King Field at noon tomorrow.
Penns Manor piled up 14 hits and bashed Purchase Line, 21-10. Alyssa Altemus had two hits and five RBIs, Summer Fennell had two hits and drove in four, and Kaiden Shields had two hits and drove in three. Freshman Allison Rhea had three hits, including a double. She also picked up the win, striking out 12 Red Dragons.
River Valley rallied for four runs in the 6th to trip up United, 9-6. The Panthers’ Tori Foust belted a home run and drove in three. Bailey Dunlap had a double and Emerson Skirball a triple. Sara Bolinger struck out six to get the win. For United, Jaelyn Lichtenfels had three hits, including a solo home run. Kylie Price had two hits.
Northern Cambria outslugged Portage, 15-11. Alivia Yahner and Morgan Hassen each had three hits for the Colts and Laci Lanzendorfer and Kenzie Formeck each hit home runs.
