The Penguins are back on the outside of the NHL Eastern Conference playoff picture after getting whipped in New Jersey last night. Paul Steigerwald has the story.
With the loss, the Penguins fell behind Florida, a 2-1 winner last night over Buffalo. If the Pens fail to make the playoffs for the first time in 17 seasons, they can blame their record against Eastern Conference teams. They have been swept this season by five of them: Boston, Carolina, Montreal, New Jersey, and the New York Islanders. The Pens are 19-19-10 against the Eastern Conference.

One of the Penguins’ top prospects, 2020 second round draft pick Joel Blomqvist, has signed an amateur tryout contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The goaltender missed a portion of this season with two concussions suffered while playing for Karpat in his native Finland. The Pens also signed undrafted free agent forward Jami Kranilla to a tryout contract.
