MINOR LEAGUES
While the minor league season didn’t start the way they hoped, the Pirates’ Triple-A affiliate Indianapolis Indians saw prolific season debuts from several top prospects in a 8-6 loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers last night.
The game started with a bang as No. 2 overall prospect Endy Rodriguez hit a two-run home run in his first at-bat of the year. Nick Gonzales, the Pirates’ No. 5 prospect, went 2-for-5 with a double and newly acquired utility player Mark Mathias went 3-for-4.
Fireballer Luis Ortiz threw three-and-two-thirds innings of shutout ball and picked up four strikeouts. Yerry De Los Santos coughed up three earned runs and was credited with the loss.
Relief pitcher Robert Stephenson made a rehab appearance during last night’s game and gave up a run over one inning. He’s currently on the 15-day injured list with an elbow injury.
