BASEBALL
Homer-Center is off to a hot start with a 3-0 Heritage Conference record. The Wildcats racked up nine hits and knocked off Purchase Line, 12-3, breaking open a 3-1 game with a 4-run 5th inning. Nash Budner was 3-for 4. Caleb Palmer had two hits and two RBIs. Braden Dunn was 2-for-2 and Owen Saiani was 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Michael Krejocic threw five 4-hit innings and gave up two runs, none earned. He struck out nine and walked three. At the plate, he hit a triple.
United scored five runs in the 3rd inning and six in the 5th on their way to bashing Penns Manor, 14-2, in a 5-inning game. The Lions had 16 hits, 15 of them singles. Travis Timko was 4-for-4 with five RBIs, Isaac Worthington had three hits and Evan Thomas had two.
River Valley clobbered Portage, 21-3. Niko Vadala was 5-for-5 and drove in three. Cole Stuchal had 3 hits, and Cole Kennedy-Citeroni, Gage Pierce, and Sammy Yanits each had two hits. Connor Binaut had two hits for the Mustangs.
Northern Cambria edged Marion Center, 5-4. Owen Bougher rapped a two-run single in the 2nd and Brad Valeria had a two-run double that put the Colts up for good in the 4th. For the Stingers, Nick Pacconi, Camden Rising, Alex Stewart, Dakota Bracken, and Parker Black all had hits.
Cambria Heights erased a 2-0 deficit with two runs in the third and single runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings to defeat West Shamokin, 5-3.
Indiana dropped its game with Punxsutawney, 4-1. The Indians could only get three hits on the afternoon, all of them singles. Trevor Smith had two hits and Gavin Homer the other.
SOFTBALL
Indiana routed Freeport, 14-2, in a five-inning Mercy Rule non-section game. Olivia Zimmerman was 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, and six RBIs. Chloe McHugh was 2-for-3 with two runs driven in. Haley Hamilton was 2-for-4 and Maggie Cunningham had a double. Addie Stossel got the win, striking out five.
Marion Center blanked Northern Cambria, 3-0. Lydia Miller had three hits, including a home run. Kayla Hill had a double and single and Kaily Anderson, Madi Lipsie, and Mya Lipsie all had hits. Cheyenne Silvis struck out nine and walked none in the complete game shutout.
United broke a 4-4 tie with a 5-run fifth inning and went on to a 13-7 win over Penns Manor. Abigail McConville had 2 hits and three RBIs. Kylie Price and Cleo Long each had two hits. In the circle, McConville gave up five hits and three walks but only one earned run and she struck out 17. For Penns Manor, Allison Rhea had two hits and Kaiden Shields hit a triple.
Homer-Center got its first win with a 14-1 rout of Purchase Line. For the Wildcats, Ava King was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs. Melanie George, Bekah Marshall, Julia King, and Emma Popp all had two hits, and George had four RBIs. Ava King got the win with 5 innings pitched, striking out four.
Cambria Heights outslugged West Shamokin, 9-8, despite 16 hits by the Wolves. For the Highlanders, Lexi Griak had three hits including two home runs, one of them a walk-off, two-run shot in the bottom of the 7th. Martina White had two hits with a homer and four RBIs. For West Shamokin, Cameron Vandervort had three hits, including a homer, Rachel Cecconi had three hits, and Lily Jordan and Maddie McConnell both had two hits with a home run.
River Valley shut out Portage, 10-0, in five innings. Ashley Pynos hit a homer and drove in two and Sara Bolinger struck out seven while allowing only four hits in the circle.
