The tentative faculty contract approved by the Penns Manor Education Association was approved last night by the school board in a special session.
The vote was unanimous to approve the four-year agreement that brought a teachers strike to an end on March 9th after teachers hit the picket lines for nine days. The contract approved last night includes a 2.8% increase in salaries over the life of the contract, including a 3% increase in the first year, 2.9% in year two, 2.8% in year three and 2.75% in the final year. Starting teacher salaries were also increased to $50,000, and early retirement incentives were also approved that start at $70,000 for five years, with that number decreasing to $60,000 for the final years of the contract. For the health insurance plans, the district will pay 75% of the medical insurance deductible and the teachers will pay 25% in the first year, and going to 50-50 for the remaining years.
Because of the strike, the board also had to approve moving the end of the school year to June 9th of 2023 for students and June 12th for teachers.
