A portion of Route 553 is closed due to a vehicle accident and fire this morning.
Indiana County 911 dispatched the Cherryhill Township and Clymer Fire Departments, Citizens’ Ambulance and State Police at 7:25 AM for what was initially reported as a vehicle fire on Route 553.
Fire officials say that a vehicle went over an embankment and crashed. The fire was still active when crews arrived. Two people were in the car at the time and they were able to get out of the car. They were treated on-scene by Citizens’ Ambulance EMTs.
As the scene is still active, Route 553 from Spaulding Road to Weston Road is closed. It’s not known at this time when the road will reopen. Pine Township fire department was called to their station an hour later to provide standby detail.
