At the NFL League Meetings in Phoenix yesterday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin spoke on a variety of topics, including the size of his coaching staff, which is the smallest in the NFL. He also talked about preparing for the NFL draft and the frenzied free agency season, which is ongoing.
Tomlin said he still expects the Steelers to add to the secondary, either through the draft or by free agency, or both.
Tomlin said he enjoys the road trips for college pro days, scouting for draft gems. He said teams rightly focus on video evidence of a player’s abilities, but it’s not always what you see on the field that shows the most about a prospect.
Tomlin says he loves watching video of a player before he ever meets them during his draft preparations.
The NFL draft begins April 27th in Kansas City.

Quarterback news coming out of the meetings included Ravens star Lamar Jackson tweeting that he requested a trade from the team on March 2nd because he says the Ravens are not interested in meeting his market value. 49ers General Manager John Lynch says Brock Purdy is his team’s starting quarterback if he is recovered from elbow surgery when training camp begins. Jets owner Robert Selah said he is confident the team will be able to complete the trade with Green Bay to make Aaron Rodgers his quarterback next season.
