The Penguins desperately needed to break their three-game losing streak last night against lowly Ottawa. They couldn’t do it, dropping the game against the Senators, and dropping out of the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Paul Steigerwald has the disappointing result.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the Penguins did everything but score goals last night.
Sullivan says the Pens peppered Ottawa’s goaltender, Dylan Ferguson, but he was up to the task.
With Florida beating Detroit, 5-2, the Panthers now lead the Penguins by one point for the second Eastern Conference Wild Card.
The Penguins put defenseman Marcus Pettersson on long term injured reserve before the game and called up defenseman Taylor Fedun to replace him. Pettersson has an unspecified ailment.
The Pens travel to Colorado to face the defending Stanley Cup champions tomorrow night, and follow that up with a tough Thursday game at Dallas.
