The dealing began yesterday in the NFL “legal tampering” period, where free agents can negotiate with any team and agree to deals, although they can’t officially sign them yet.
The Steelers lost starting cornerback Cam Sutton, who agreed to a three-year contract with Detroit. Pittsburgh then agreed to a two-year deal with former Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson, who is a two-time All-Pro and has made the Pro Bowl eight times. He spent ten seasons with the Cardinals before spending the last two seasons in Minnesota.
The cornerback change for the Steelers is the only reported move involving the team so far. The signings can become official tomorrow at 4 PM.
Other high profile NFL contract agreements announced yesterday included:
- Former Steelers nose tackle Javon Hargrave moving from the Eagles to the 49ers. The Niners also reached deals with quarterback Sam Darnold and defensive tackle Kevin Givens.
- Ex-Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo goes to the Raiders.
- The Bears agreed to a deal with former Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, the brother of Steelers cornerback Terrell Edmunds, who is also a free agent and has publicly suggested a package deal so he can play alongside Tremaine. The Bears also got former Eagles linebacker T.J. Edwards
- The Falcons grab ex-Bengal safety Jessie Bates III and make Chris Lindstrom the highest paid guard in NFL history with a five-year extension.
- The Seahawks will sign former Broncos defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones.
- The Broncos reach deals with offensive linemen Mike McGlinchey and Ben Powers, and defensive end Zach
