Suddenly heating up with a 7-1-1 record in their last nine games, the Penguins welcome the Montreal Canadiens to PPG Paints Arena tonight, with the Pens having won back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday.
After the 3-2 overtime win on Sunday against the New York Rangers, who the Pens will play again on Thursday and Saturday, coach Mike Sullivan said it’s going to only be more intense as the season enters its final phase and teams play for playoff positioning.
The Pens were banged up on Sunday against the Rangers. Defenseman Dmitry Kulikov left the game with an undisclosed injury. Forward Rickard Rakell left briefly but returned and center Evgeni Malkin took a hard hit from behind near the end of regulation. Forwards Nick Bonino and Ryan Poehling remain on the injured reserve list.
The Penguins currently hold the first Eastern Conference Wild Card position by two points over the New York Islanders. They are six points behind the Rangers in the Metro Division.
