The Pirates had the day off at spring training yesterday and will play the Orioles today in Bradenton.

The United States cruised to a 12-1 victory over Canada in a 7-inning Mercy Rule game in the World Baseball Classic in Phoenix. Pirates closer David Bednar pitched a 1-2-3 7th for the U.S., which took a 9-0 lead in the first with homers by Mike Trout and Trea Turner.
Puerto Rico secured the first-ever WBC perfect game with a 10-0 Mercy Rule win over Israel. The Pirates’ Duane Underwood Jr. threw a perfect 8th inning to close it. The game won’t count as a perfect game, though, because it was only eight innings.
Korea crushed China 22-2, the Dominican Republic topped Nicaragua 6-1, and Great Britain defeated Colombia 7-5.
The U.S. is off today.
