That is being put to the test today as the Higher Elevations of Indiana County will be under a winter weather advisory from 6:00 tonight to 2:00 tomorrow afternoon. Accuweather Meterologist Dan Pydynowski said that conditions will be worse in the new zone than they will be in the rest of the county.

The National Weather Service last week split Indiana County into two distinct forecasting zones, and that is now being put into use with a winter weather advisory in place for the new zone.
The new zone is for what is called the “Higher Elevations of Indiana County” and is for the southeast third of the county. According to the announcement from the National Weather Service, the reason for splitting Indiana County into the two zones is to have a more accurate forecast for the area. While the Western parts of the county are at 1200 feet in elevation, the southeast is around 2000 feet, which has a notable impact on temperature, precipitation and wind.
