The Pirates took a 3-2 lead on home runs by Bryan Reynolds and Jack Suwinski, but the Braves put up five runs in the 6th inning and cruised to an 11-3 win over the Bucs in spring training baseball yesterday in Bradenton.
It was the third time in their last four games that the Pirtaes have given up 10 or more runs.
The Pirates are off today and return to action tomorrow afternoon against the Orioles at LECOM Park.
WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC
The United States was beaten by Mexico, 11-5, at Chase Field in Phoenix yesterday.
Shohei Ohtani led Japan to a 7-1 victory over Australia in Tokyo. Ohtani launched a three-run homer in the first inning of the win. Manager Mike Piazza and Italy improved to 2-and-2 with a 7-1 win over Netherlands. Venezuela topped Puerto Rico, 9-6, Israel defeated Nicaragua, 3-1, Canada knocked off Great Britain, 18-8, and Australia cruised past the Czech Republic, 8-3.
The U.S. plays Canada today.
