The Pitt Panthers never had a chance yesterday against Duke in the ACC Tournament. The Blue Devils scored the game’s first twelve points and never let up, cruising to a 96-69 win. With two seven-footers in their starting lineup, Duke dominated from the opening tipoff. Seven foot forward Kyle Filipowski scored 22 points in only 15 minutes of playing time. He sprained his ankle early in the game but did return to limited action and was 4-for-6 on three-point attempts.
Nike Sibande scored 17 points and Guillermo Diaz Graham had 14 for Pitt, which largely played without center Federiko Federiko, who had a sore knee.
Coach Jeff Capel said Duke was just too good.
Capel says the Panthers deserve a chance to play in the NCAA tournament, and he believes they will get a chance.
Duke will play top seed Miami tonight in one ACC semifinal. Number two seed Virginia plays number three Clemson in the other semi.
