The IUP Crimson Hawks are just a day away from opening up the Atlantic Region tournament at the KCAC. IUP will play in the day’s third game, scheduled for tipoff at five o’clock. Jack Benedict and Tony Coccagna will have the call of the game on 92.5 FM U92.
On a special edition of Hawk Talk last night, coach Joe Lombardi said the entire community has contributed to the long-term success of the Crimson Hawks basketball program.
Lombardi says teams are always looking to improve and his is no different, and he says there are some intangible qualities the Crimson Hawks could improve on.
IUP beat tomorrow’s opponent, Winston-Salem State, 67-50 in the season’s second game. Shawndale Jones scored 20 points and Ethan Porterfield 19 for the Hawks. Lombardi says the Rams are a better team now than they were then, but he thinks IUP is, too. He says Winston-Salem State plays a different style than most of the teams in the PSAC.
The Atlantic Region action tomorrow starts with a noon tipoff between Mercyhurst and East Stroudsburg, followed by West Liberty against UPJ at 2:30. IUP and Winston-Salem State tangle at 5, and the nightcap features Virginia State taking on Fairmont State at 7:30.
