After a week off, the high school basketball season resumes with the state tournament, and the Heritage Conference is well-represented, with five teams in action tonight and another one tomorrow.
On WCCS FM 101.1 and AM 1160 and streaming audio on WCCSradio.com tonight, District 6 girls Double-A champion Homer-Center, at 20-7 on the season, welcomes WPIAL number eight Chartiers Houston , which is 16-10 coming into the game.
Wildcats coach Nick Moore says he sees similarities between the Buccaneers and another recent opponent of Homer-Center, from the District 6 playoffs.
On Cat Country 106.3 FM and streaming audio on CatCountry1063fm.com, another District 6 titleholder, girls Triple-A champ River Valley, hosts York Catholic. River Valley is 25-2 and the Fighting Irish, the number four team out of District 3, are 17-9.
Panthers coach Ricc Brown says his girls fought hard to win the district title and earn the right to open the state playoffs on their home floor.
On U92.5 FM and streaming audio on U92radio.com, girls Double-A runner-up United will play WPIAL number three Burgettstown at Central Cambria. The Lions are 17-8 and the Blue Devils come into the game at 20-6.
The District 6 number four girls team, 14-2 Marion Center, travels to New Castle to take on WPIAL champion Shenango, which is 22-4.
And in boys Class A tonight, District 6 champ Portage, with a record of 25-2, will play the number four team out of District 9, 17-8 Cameron County.
Tomorrow afternoon, in a game on Cat Country 106.3 FM and streaming audio on CatCountry1063fm.com, 25-2 District 6 boys Double-A champ United clashes with WPIAL number seven Serra Catholic, which is 15-11.
