The PIAA released the brackets for the state basketball tournaments, with local girls’ teams playing in the first round on Friday and the United boys playing on Saturday.
In the 2A girls bracket, the District 6 champion Homer-Center Wildcats (20-7) will play host to Chartiers Houston (16-10), the eighth seed out of District 7, on Friday night at 7 p.m. District 6 runner-up United (17-8) travels to Central Cambria to take on District 7 third seed Burgettstown (20-6) at 7 p.m. And Marion Center (14-12), the District 6 fourth seed, visits host and District 7 champion Shenango (22-4), also at 7 p.m.
District 6 3A girls’ champion River Valley (25-2) also goes into action Friday, playing host to York Catholic (17-9), the fourth seed out of District 3. That game will tip off at 6 p.m.
District 6 2A boys’ champion United (25-2) will travel to Central Cambria Saturday afternoon to battle Serra Catholic (15-11). The Eagles are the No. 7 seed out of District 7.
