Notre Dame came into last night’s game against first place Pitt with an underwhelming record of 10-19, and only 2-16 in the ACC. But it was coach Mike Brey’s final home game as Fighting Irish coach and the arena was packed with appreciative fans and former players…Notre Dame knocked off the Panthers, 88-81.
The Fighting Irish had five players in double figures, led by Marcus Hammon and Corman Ryan with 20 each. For Pitt, Nelly Cummings, Jamarius Burton, and Nike Sibande all scored 19 points. Blake Hinson had 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Pitt falls to 21-9, 14-5 in the conference. They are in a three-way tie for first in the ACC, with one game left to play, at Miami on Saturday night. The Panthers need to win to avoid falling as low as number five in the conference, with the possibility of having to win four times in four days to take the ACC championship.
