Coach Joe Lombardi says tournament basketball is what’s it’s all about for IUP.
IUP outrebounded Cal, 43-25, including a 12-5 edge in offensive rebounds. Lombardi says rebounding is not just about who’s bigger.
IUP will play number three East seed East Stroudsburg on Saturday afternoon at one o’clock. The Warriors beat West Chester, 85-72. In their only meeting of the year, IUP beat East Stroud, 67-53 at the KCAC behind 18 points apiece by Tomiwa Sulaiman and Shawndale Jones. Pregame Saturday will be 12:30 on 92.5 FM U92.
In the other PSAC tournament games last night, Mercyhurst easily handled UPJ, 86-57. They will play host Shippensburg, a 75-64 winner over Lock Haven, on Saturday at 3:30.
In the women’s tournament, Cal tripped up Edinboro, 70-62 and will play West Chester at Gannon on Saturday. West Chester clipped Millersville, 76-61. Gannon trimmed UPJ, 71-67 and will play Shippensburg, a 72-55 winner over Kutztown.
