The Pitt Panthers are in for a tough battle tonight at Notre Dame, made even more difficult by the fact that it is Fighting Irish coach Mike Brey’s last home game as he prepares to step away from coaching, and the arena will be packed with former players, and with plenty of emotion.
Pitt has a lot at stake tonight. The 21-8 Panthers are 14-4 in the ACC and can clinch a share of the regular season conference title and a double-bye headed into the ACC tournament. The Panthers will play at Miami to close the regular season on Saturday. Notre Dame has had a disappointing season.
The Irish are 10-19, and only 2-16 in the ACC. While he is stepping down as Notre Dame coach, Brey says he is not retiring. He does not know what he will do in the future.
Pitt tips off with Notre Dame at 7 o’clock tonight on WCCS. Airtime is 6:30.
