On Monday night, the Indiana School Board formally accepted the resignation of Superintendent Michael Vuckovich and appointed the district’s Director of Education Robert Heinrich as acting superintendent.
Vuckovich said that from now until May 15th, his last day, one area that will be a main focus will be to make sure that the transition to Heinrich is a smooth one and provide him with any assistance he may need.
In other business, the board approved a settlement agreement with Juul Labs. The district was part of a class-action lawsuit against the electronic cigarette company. The details on the settlement were not disclosed, but Vuckovich said the district plans on using the money from that lawsuit to combat vaping in the schools, including the purchase of vape detectors.
The board also approved the ARIN operating budget at $3,414,949. The district’s share will come to $158,977, which represents no increase over last year’s budget. The board also approved a clean audit report made by Kotzan CPA and Associates.
