Hours before their matchup, the St. Louis Blues claimed winger Kasperi Kapanen off waivers from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Kapanen was placed on waivers Friday afternoon after putting up abysmal numbers with the Penguins this year. In 43 games, he posted 20 points coming off seven goals and 13 assists. He was signed to a two-year, $6.4 million contract this offseason and will force a $3.2 million cap hit on St. Louis.
According to reports, Kapanen will not play in this afternoon’s game as he didn’t travel to St. Louis with Pittsburgh.
The Penguins also activated defenseman Jan Rutta off long-term injured reserve, who’s been out since January 17 with an upper body injury.
Due to Kapanen’s claim, no additional roster moves need to be made for Rutta to return.
