Pitt struggled but finally pulled away last night for a 76-68 win over Georgia Tech. Nelly Cummings scored 22 points, including two tightly-contested three-pointers down the stretch, and the Panthers went 19-for-20 from the foul line, 12-for-12 in the second half, to earn their 20th win of the season.
Blake Hinson scored 19 points, Federiko Federiko had 14, and Jamarius Burton had 12. Pitt overcame a Georgia Tech lead in the second half.
Coach Jeff Capel liked his team’s defensive toughness.
Capel said it was important for Pitt to get a win after having their six-game winning streak snapped last Saturday.
Pitt is 13-4 in the ACC and 20-8 overall. It’s their first twenty-win season since 2015-16.
