Just a week after being named the PSAC West Athlete of the Week, IUP sophomore forward Tomiwa Sulaiman has been named Defensive Player of the Week for the fifth time this season. Sulaiman averaged almost a double-double in two games last week, 15.0 points per game and 9.5 rebounds, while blocking six shots and grabbing five steals in wins over Edinboro and Slippery Rock.
IUP ended up sweeping the PSAC West Defensive Player of the Week honors, with Teirra Preston
grabbing the women’s award. She averaged 10.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in a win over Edinboro and a loss to Slippery Rock. She also had seven steals in the two games.
IUP’s two basketball teams wrap up the regular season with a doubleheader on Saturday at Cal U.
IUP TRACK & FIELD
IUP sophomore Kendall Branan yesterday was named the PSAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, the second time the Indiana High School graduate has won the award this season. Branan placed fourth against primarily Division One runners in the 800 meters at the Penn State Tune Up, posting a season-best NCAA provisional time of 1:50.22. That time is currently 12th in Divison Two this season and second in the Atlantic Region. Branan also was part of IUP’s 4-by-400 relay team, which won its event in 3:20.68.
IUP will compete in the 2023 PSAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this Friday through Sunday at Bucknell.
