Steelers assistant head coach John Mitchell has retired after a coaching career spanning the past fifty years, the last 29 of them in Pittsburgh. The 71-year-old was the team’s defensive line coach from 1994 through 2017, when he gave up on-field coaching. He’s worked with staff development and career development for current and former Steelers players since then.
Mitchell made history as the first Black football player at the University of Alabama, in 1971, and later coached under Bear Bryant in Tuscaloosa. He also coached at Arkansas, Temple, and LSU and for two seasons in the USFL before coaching under Bill Belichick with the Browns in 1991.

The Bears have purchased a 326-acre property in the Chicago suburb of Arlington Park for $197.2 million. The team issued a statement the purchase “does not guarantee the development of the team’s plan for a domed stadium,” but it’s widely known that the team wants to replace Solider Field, where they’ve played since 1971.
