Two Heritage Conference basketball players etched their name in the history books Monday night.
On the girls’ side, River Valley’s Ava Persichetti notched her 1,000th career point in the Panthers’ 66-41 win over Conemaugh Township. Persichetti hit a three-pointer to start the game, and followed that with six more to reach the 1,000-point marker in just her 53rd game played. She led all scorers with 24 points and 10 assists. Hannah Artley added 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Penns Manor routed Tyrone, 42-37. Alyssa Altemus led the Comets with 16 points – 10 of which came in the fourth quarter. Allie Mumau added 12. Deja Gillo had six points and seven assists. The Comets’ JV team also downed Tyrone, 44-35.
In boys basketball, Penns Manors’ Max Hill also passed the 1,000 point marker as the Comets routed Belleville Mennonite, 68-50, in their regular season finale. Hill garnered 25 points in the first half and added two more on the first possession in the second to clinch the milestone. He also set a school record as the only player in school history to rush for 1,000 career yards in football and score 1,000 points in basketball.

The Comets now await their draw for districts.
United topped Penns Valley, 54-42. Joe Marino led the Lions with 14 points and went 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Brad Felix added 15 and Carter Payne 11.
River Valley fell to Phillipsburg-Osceola, 64-43. Dom Speal led the Panthers with 14 points.
WPIAL
The Indiana High girls basketball team learned their positioning in the WPIAL Class 5A playoffs. The Little Indians clinched the sixth-seed and will head to Fox Chapel High School next Tuesday to face 11-seed Hampton. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. and Renda Media will provide coverage of the game on WDAD 100.3 FM and AM 1450. Airtime is 7:45.
The winner of that game will face the winner of three-seed McKeesport and 14-seed Penn Hills on February 24.
SWIMMING/DIVING
The Indiana High swimming and diving teams shined in the Mark Hess Invitational at IUP.
The boys took first overall and were led by the 200m medley relay team of Eli Aiken, Alex Bauer, Joey Margita and Preston Kessler. Bauer also set a school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.18.
The girls were led by Peyton Scott, who finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:55.52 mark.
