The IUP baseball team started their season strong by splitting a doubleheader with 23rd-ranked East Stroudsburg on Friday.
In the inaugural game of the season, pitching aided the Crimson Hawks in a 4-2 win. Mark Edeburn hurled 5-and-two-thirds innings of two-run ball and collected one strikeout on 80 pitches. Offensively, Harrison Pontoli aided IUP by going 2-for-2 with a home run and two walks. David Kessler and Andrew Sicinski also collected two hits each.
East Stroudsburg bounced back with a 2-1 win in game two. IUP knotted up the scoring in the second with a RBI double by Elijah Dunn, but the Warriors’ Parker Frey singled home a run in the fifth inning to give them the lead.
Both teams clash this afternoon for a back-to-back doubleheader at Owen Dougherty Field. First pitch is at noon.
The team also announced that the game between IUP and Mount Aloysius, originally scheduled for later in the season, will now be played Wednesday at Dougherty Field at 2 p.m.
