Steelers’ defensive lineman Cam Heyward is headed to Las Vegas for the Pro Bowl after being named to the AFC team yesterday to replace Kansas City’s Chris Jones, who is unavailable because the Chiefs are in the Super Bowl. Heyward joins teammate Minkah Fitzpatrick in the Pro Bowl, which is using yet another new format this year. There are activities Thursday, including a dodgeball tournament, and a flag football game on Sunday.
Other Pro Bowl substitutions are three quarterbacks added to the AFC roster. The Raiders’ Derek Carr, who was kicked off the team for their last game, and Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence were named to the AFC team, and so was Baltimore’s Tyler Huntley, despite starting only four games and playing in six, throwing only two touchdown passes versus three interceptions.

Two teams named new head coaches yesterday. Former Saints coach Sean Payton is taking over the Denver Broncos, who will send their first round draft pick and next year’s second round pick to New Orleans for Payton’s rights. The Saints will send their third round pick next year to Denver.
San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans is the new head coach of the Houston Texans, and it’s a six-year contract for Ryans, who played linebacker for the Texans in six of his ten NFL seasons.
