In Heritage Conference boys action, the top team in the west, United, journeyed to second place River Valley a night after a thrilling overtime road win over Conemaugh Township, but the road-weary Lions still found a way to win, putting up a nine-point margin in the fourth quarter to win the game, 50-40. Brad Felix led United with 19 points and Joe Marino scored 9 of his 13 in the final period. River Valley was led by Jayden Whitfield’s 14 points and 11 by Dom Speal.
The win for United clinches the Heritage Conference West for them. They will host a semifinal game on February 7th. River Valley will be the number two team from the West, and will play their semifinal game on the Road to the KCAC against East winner Portage on the 7th. The second place team from the East will be either Penns Manor or Northern Cambria.
Northern Cambria lost to Portage last night, 59-38.
Penns Manor beat Purchase Line, 74-45.
West Shamokin downed Marion Center, 47-31.
WRESTLING
United’s amazing wrestling season continued last night with a 62-6 win over Conemaugh Township. The Lions are 10-0 in regular season matches, with a five-match win of a tournament at Bedford and a 4th place finish at another tournament at Southmoreland.
United’s winners on the mat last night were Noah Pisarik, Traystin Tomalson, Dylan Stephens, and Josef Garshnick by fall; and Aiden Gallaher and Zack Travis by decision.
RIFLE
Indiana Rifle lost to Mt. Lebanon, 799-62X to 773-31X. Top shooter for Indiana was Nathan teacher, with a 99-8X.
