The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association nominated IUP infielders Harrison Pontoli and Markus Cestra as honorable mentions in its 2023 All-Atlantic Region Team, according to a recent announcement.
Cestra comes off a 2022 campaign where he led IUP with a .369 batting average, 1.088 OPS, 59 hits, 22 doubles and four triples. His doubles mark also broke IUP’s single-season record. This all culminated as he was named First Team All-PSAC last season.
Pontoli led the Crimson Hawks with six home runs and 42 RBIs last season. He also tied with Cestra for the team lead in triples, while finished behind him in batting average (.349), OPS (1.068), hits (53), and doubles (16).
IUP baseball opens its season February 10 at UNC Pembroke.
