After sweeping Cal U in a doubleheader on Saturday, the IUP basketball teams get right back to action tonight with two on the road at Edinboro. It’s part of three PSAC doubleheaders on the schedule this week.
The IUP women are 13-3 and 8-2 in the PSAC. They beat Cal, 71-65 on Saturday. IUP and UPJ are tied for second in the PSAC West, a game behind Gannon. Tonight’s opponent, Edinboro, is 10-6 overall and 7-4 in the PSAC, just a game behind IUP and UPJ in the West. They beat Clarion by 10 on Saturday.
The IUP men are 17-0 and 10-0 in the PSAC, two games up on Mercyhurst. They are the number one ranked team in the nation and are coming off an 87-70 win over Cal on Saturday after leading by only 4 at the half. Edinboro is 5-11 and coming off a four-point win over Clarion. They are 3-8 in the PSAC.
Coach Joe Lombardi is looking forward to tonight’s action, and Wednesday’s trip to Slippery Rock, too.
Lombardi says the rugged January schedule is helping IUP form its basketball identity.
Lombardi is 25-8 lifetime against Edinboro and the Crimson Hawks have won six in a row at the McComb Fieldhouse, where they’ll play tonight.
Jack Benedict has the call of the games tonight beginning at 5:15 on 92.5 FM U92.
