Pitt welcomed their largest crowd of the season to the Petersen Events Center yesterday, but the Panthers didn’t give the fans much to cheer about. They were upset by ACC rival Florida State, 71-64 before an announced crowd of 10,390.
Pitt fell to 13-7, and 6-3 in the ACC. The Seminoles are 7-13, and 5-4 in the conference.
Pitt jumped to a 10-point lead early but then went cold and Florida State seized control of the game, outscoring Pitt by 20 the rest of the first half. Pitt was only 7 of 28 on three-point shots for the game as two of their better scorers, Nelly Cummings and Nike Sibande, went a combined 3-for-18 from the floor. Jamarius Burton led Pitt with 20 points and Blake Hinson scored 16.
The Panthers return to action Wednesday at home against Wake Forest.
