The two top teams in the Heritage Conference met last night in Armagh as United and Portage clashed. Both were 8-0 in the conference coming into the game, and they put on quite a show. Portage led the entire first half, but United put on a 9-0 run early in the second half to take the lead, which they extended to 10 in a 27-14 third quarter. United led 51-44 entering the fourth quarter before Portage stormed back to retake the lead. The Lions’ Dylan Dishong hit a clutch three-point buzzer beater to force overtime.
In the extra period, Mason Kargo hit a three-pointer and a two, and the Mustangs were 7-of-8 from the free throw line to take the win, 83-79, handing United its first loss of the season.
Portage had five players in double figures, led by Kargo’s 19. Andrew Miko had 18, Luke Scarton 15, and Bode Layo and Owen Gouse each had 10. For United, Brad Felix scored 26 points, Joe Marino 16, Isaac Worthington 12, and Dishong had 10.
River Valley’s boys came up with another Heritage Conference win, downing Penns Manor, 69-60. Luke Woodring led the Panthers with 21 points. Dom Speal and Brad McDivitt each had 15 and Jayden Whitfield added 11. River Valley is 10-6 overall and 7-2 in the Heritage Conference, good for second place in the West.
Homer-Center thrashed Purchase Line, 62-31. For the Wildcats, Michael Krejocic, Caleb Palmer, Angelo Alexander, and Nash Budner each scored 11 points.
Indiana lost to Southmoreland, 78-55. For the Scotties, Ty Keffer scored 27 points and topped the 1,000-point mark for his career. Stanford Webb led Indiana with 17 points and Gavin Homer added 16.
Cambria Heights beat Marion Center, 74-45.
West Shamokin trimmed Northern Cambria, 52-41.
WRESTLING
Indiana High School lost a Section match for the first time last night, falling to Burrell, 50-16. Winners for Indiana were Nico Fanella, Carter Putt, Will Turner, and Muneeb Kasi. The Indians are now 4-1 in the section and 5-3 overall.
