Nike Sibande came off the bench and scored a career-high 21 points, and Jamarius Burton added 19 as Pitt beat Georgia Tech, 71-60, and broke a two-game losing streak. The Panthers bettered their record to 12-6, and 5-2 in the ACC, with one more game left on a three-game road trip. They’ll be at last place Louisville, a loser to North Carolina yesterday, on Wednesday.
The Panthers only turned the ball over three times in the entire game and kept the Yellow Jackets off the free throw line as well. Georgia Tech attempted only three foul shots.
Pitt won despite being outrebounded, 40-35. Rebounding has been a problem all season and will continue to be as the Panthers’ center, John Hugley IV has been ruled out for the season, “while coping with mental health challenges as well as recovery and reconditioning from a preseason injury.” Hugley has struggled to return from a knee injury and has played on only eight games this season.
