The Penguins were beaten by the Carolina Hurricanes last night, 2-1. They were swept by the ‘Canes this season and have slipped to sixth place in the Metro Division, a point behind the New York Islanders. it was the second straight loss for the Pens, who continue to play with a depleted lineup.
The only Penguins goal was a fluke power play goal by Rickard Rakell in the third period. Rakell was the beneficiary when Hurricanes goaltender Frederik Anderson tried a showboat clear of a high shot by Jake Guentzel. Anderson gloved the shot, then tossed the puck in the air and tried to bat it baseball-style down the ice, but he put it right on the shaft of the stick of Rakell, who was only about a foot away from him, and Rakell knocked it into the net.
The Pens play the Anaheim Ducks at PPG Paints Arena tomorrow night.
