Steelers senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach Brian Flores has interviewed for the vacant defensive coordinators job with the Cleveland Browns, and is known to have had contact with other NFL teams, making his return to Pittsburgh doubtful. The Browns have also asked for permission to talk with at least two others, Patriots assistant Jerod Mayo and Seahawks associate head coach Sean Desai, and have already met with former Detroit head coach Jim Schwartz.
Three more players signed reserve/futures contracts with the Steelers yesterday, including former fourth round draft choice Anthony McFarland, who suited up for only one game this past season. He ended the year as he began it, on the Steelers’ practice squad. Also signing were defensive tackle Renell Wren and inside linebacker Chapelle Russell, who both spent nearly the entire season on the Steelers’ practice squad after signing on the same day in September. Wren did dress for the final two regular season games for the Steelers this past season but played only one snap.

Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson tweeted yesterday that his knee injury is a “PCL grade 2 sprain on the borderline of a (grade) 3.” He says it’s still inflamed and unstable. Jackson will not play Sunday night against the Bengals in the Ravens’ playoff game and his backup, Ty Huntley, is suffering from a sprained throwing shoulder and was limited in practice again yesterday.
Wild Card weekend begins tomorrow afternoon with the Seahawks in San Francisco against the 49ers. That’s followed by the Jaguars ghosting the Chargers. On Sunday, the Dolphins visit the Buffalo Bills, with Miami still unsure who their quarterback will be. The Giants pay at Minnesota in Sunday’s middle game and the Bengals host the Ravens Sunday night. On Monday night, the Cowboys visit the Buccaneers.
